PRINCE CHARLES GIVES SAVAGE WARNING AGAINST GENETICALLY MODIFIED CROPS

Prince Charles who runs an organic farm on his High Grove estate was interviewed by the Daily Telegraph (United Kingdom) and warns of environmental disaster to come.  He states that Multi-National companies are seriously wrong and over – reaching themselves in conducting Genetically Modified (GM) experiments with nature.  He predicts that food will run out because of damage done by GM engineering in the field and says we should be talking about food security not food production.  Small farmers will become victims of gigantic corporations taking over mass production and can be driven off their land.

His opposition to GM-based farming methods will put him on a collision course with the international scientific community and Downing Street.  The huge number of 54 GM supported crop trials have already taken place in Britain since the year 2000.

The Prince cites the widespread environmental damage in India caused by the push to mass produce GM food; the water level has disappeared, there is too great a burden placed on irrigation and there are problems with pesticides.  In Western Australia there are huge problems with salinisation of the earth affecting crop growth.

Nature is being pressurised these days he says.  Scientists tell him that repeated attacks on their trials are stifling research to evaluate GM crops and a few weeks ago British Ministers were being lobbied for security at research facilities and fields, something unprecedented!  There is opposition to research that investigates genetic modification!
