AUSTRALIA FACES A GREAT ENEMY

Australian people must seriously ask the powers-that-be, ‘The Global Warming been established as our next Public Enemy number one beyond reasonable doubt?’. What is obvious today is that the yet unproven theory of global warming is becoming a human-induced worldwide industry. Many Australians are of the opinion that this inflated business of global warming should be brought down to size. It is best put on the back burner until its case is proved beyond reasonable doubt to the satisfaction to the disinterested populace. Otherwise it is likely to be hijacked by interested parties in the confusion that is fueled by the misinformation and disinformation propaganda of those parties and their corporate allies.

Australia faces a far greater enemy in the ever-diminishing supply of rainwater that varies inversely with our increasing population. The absolute amount of fresh water collected in our dams, etc. today will certainly not sustain a population greater than the current one.

As things stand, the bulk of the rain that falls on our coastal cities eventually run out into the sea, not inland where it is most needed. Local councils, for example, do not have in place sensible hydraulic codes that will retain the rainfall on the properties within their jurisdiction instead of requiring the rainwater to be pumped out to the street gutters. Securing ample water supply throughout Australia is, therefore, of paramount importance.

What has been happening recently in U.S.A but is not reported by our media could have a flow–on impact here because of our alliance with the U.S.A. water rights are bought and sold by Americans on the stock exchange. For instance, T. Boone Pickens, who made good living extracting oil and is now at 80 worth US$3billion, sees water as the new oil. The Oklahoman has put his money where is mouth is by investing in US$100 million in water rights in the state of Texas alone. In addition to looking around the U.S.A to invest more money in competition with transnational corporate-giants like Nestle, Pickens is looking overseas to buy water rights here in Australia.

It is imperative that Prime Minister Kevin Rudd takes a positive step forward in securing our water supply by not only nationalizing our water rights, but also preventing any foreign ownership of what is the lifeblood of our nation. With what little is left of the surplus that the Labor Government inherited since November 2007, Rudd must not underestimate the clout of the protagonists facing his government business colossus armed with war-chests that are far bigger than the total GNPs of some nation-states in the Asia –Pacific region. Business Week recently reported that the Swiss –based Nestle is seeking to lock up water supplies needed for its upstream and downstream business operation in U.S.A. As the Royal Dutch Shell prepares to drill for oil in the shale deposits in Colorado, it is also buying up ground water rights there.

At 80 years ‘young’, I will continue work at the forefront for nationalized water conservation. With the assistance of my fellow Australians young, and old, I strive to persuade the Federal Government to change tack and elevate the Australia-wide conservation of rainwater to the national consciousness. If our Federal Government bows to the interests of the likes of Pickens and their proxies here in Australia, the Australian population will pay most dearly in the long term. You only need to look at the Big Picture to realize that any interference with the most precious commodity in Australia by the foreign power than in offering to rebuild the Iraqi economy could only demonstrate the gross mismanagement of its economy at home will not inspire confidence in but instead spell disaster for our future. We ordinary Australians know what is in our best interests. Every true Australian, therefore, must fight tenaciously and begin the fight now for the national water security for Australians and only Australians. National water security is too important a matter to be left only to the politicians.

P.S. It’s rather ironical that the new James Bond film “Quantum Of Solace” is actually the true story of what happened in Bolivia, South America. Whereby USA Big Business, through the corrupt Govt were instrumental in trying to takeover all the water rights in Bolivia. However the people power prevented such a takeover.
